Effect of low light condition on the growth and carbon use of legume seedlings

Plants exhibit flexible changes morphological physiological traits to adapt environments. However, interaction between growth, functional among plant organs, non-structural carbohydrates (NSCs) concentration determine adaptation strategies remain unclear. Three legume- shade-intolerant species, Robinia pseudoacacia (L.), Falcataria moluccana (Miq.), Acacia mangium (Willd.) were grown under full (open) 15% availability (shade). Changes in shoot length, diameter, organ respiration rates, NSCs observed throughout 6 months growing period. Only R. developed longer (13.67%) bigger (26.61%) shoots open sites than shade sites. Specific Leaf Area (SLA) Root (SRA) site for all species (SLA=±2 times; SRA=±1-4 times). Dry mass, allocated more roots but leaves F. A. mangium. Based interactions parameters, our results show that different develop specific conditions, which flexibility as part strategy low-light environment.
